On Veterans Day, remembering World War II in 4 charts

More than 100 years after the start of World War I, there is still no monument on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., dedicated to the 4.7 million Americans who served during this war.

Britain, France, Australia and Canada also commemorate the veterans of World Wars I and II on or near November 11: Canada has Remembrance Day, while Britain has Remembrance Sunday (the second Sunday of November). “Let us reconsecrate ourselves to the task of promoting an enduring peace so that their efforts shall not have been in vain”.

This Veterans Day, the Honor Flight, along with the Rotary Club of Sedona, will be doing their part in honoring those who have served our country.

He was attending the Veterans Day ceremony with his daughter, Barbara Hebert and her husband Mark.

Channel 2’s Linda Stouffer was there as bagpipers led the ceremony at Veterans Park at the Atlanta History Center on West Paces Ferry Road.

A 21-gun salute was performed to honor our veterans on this day.

Marchers included veterans, active military personnel, civic groups, youth groups and marching bands on foot, floats and old military vehicles, organizers said.

For Vietnam Veteran Gene Johnson the special day is about much more than just himself. “More importantly, it gives us an opportunity to say, ‘Thanks'”.

Montogmery’s Vietnam Veterans teceived the honor they deserve with a patriotic ceremony. Take a moment to thank those veterans you know for their service. They were decked out in their red, white, and blue clothing and waved American flags in honor of those who have served and continue to serve our country.

“You would kill or die for any one of them, that is 24/7, we will always be brothers”, Javorina said. It also showcased a few of Butler County’s young people with appearances by over a dozen pageant winners and dozens of ROTC students who marched in uniform to celebrate the holiday.
