Eagles’ Jordan Hicks is Out For the Season

Never satisfied. Always wanting to improve.

“Every morning, hitting the reset button and saying whatever we did yesterday, it doesn’t matter”. Flush it. It’s in the past.

“I go way back with Ach”. Today is my Super Bowl. He must pass all the concussion tests before being cleared to practice or play. Or whenever you do well, you’re not sitting there thinking, my stuff doesn’t stink. We decided that we were going to give him a second chance, but in doing so, the expectations and the standards that we set would be very clear to him – how he, and really everybody else, is supposed to conduct themselves on the football field and off the football field.

Kelly occasionally brings in speakers to address his players.

“I’m in the right spot at the right time”, Hicks said. But for the rest of the game, the defense didn’t do any favors for Sam Bradford and the offense.

The biggest: dropped passes.

When the Philadelphia Eagles needed him most, Bradford delivered. But that was little consolation to Matthews.

Immediately after the game, Twitter was flooded with Cowboys fans taking inexplicably poor shots of their television (zoom in, turn up the volume and hold your hand steady; come on, people) and insisting Maragos said heads, not tails. He sure looked like he was fully healthy Sunday night. “So we’ll get that fixed”. At that point, there’s only one way to put it behind you. That’s to go work.

“And you lose that in the National Football League if you don’t do the right things”. Acho spent the last two years with the Eagles before the team reached an injury settlement with him during training camp. And that’s what I did. That’s just kind of my MO.

Going forward, the team won’t be able to keep winning like that.

■ Finally, Jordan Matthews can catch. New Orleans’ Drew Brees threw an 80-yard touchdown pass on the second play of the extra period in Week 4. More than Harold Carmichael.

And what does Matthews think about that, and about being mentioned in the same breath with the aforementioned gentlemen?

“It’s definitely something you want to work toward, ” he said.

“Those guys laid the foundation”. Alonso returned on Sunday for the first time since Week 2 and played 37 percent of the defensive snaps. “I did my job”. He had a monster year in 2014, catching 88 passes for 1,320 yards and 16 touchdowns, the third-straight season in which he managed at least 85 catches, 1,200 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. Hicks finished his rookie season with 50 tackles, one sack, two interceptions one forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, and a touchdown.

The Goats: After the first half, there wasn’t much defense to speak of here. He directed an offense that didn’t score in the first quarter for the sixth time in eight games, but scored four times in five full possessions in the second half and overtime.

-PASSING OFFENSE: B. Learning a new offense and trying to shed almost two years of rust, Sam Bradford struggled much of the first half of the season. But over the first eight games, each of those players – often more than one at a time – missed significant time with injury, forcing the rookie out of Texas into action.

Then in overtime, he teamed with Bradford on the game-winning TD.

“Jordan is a guy that works at things, ” offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur said.

But the Eagles have come to expect plays like that from their defense.

Nevertheless, losing Hicks is something they will have to work hard to overcome, if they can do it at all.
