Carson: Clinton lies different from West Point ‘misinterpretation’
The knife, though, hit the person’s belt buckle, avoiding any serious injury.
CNN reported last week that nine childhood friends, classmates and neighbors who grew up with Carson had no memory of the violent outbursts he has described and the campaign has declined to provide further details.
Mr. Carson has waved off a few of the questions, backed up his story on a few points, and most prominently accused the press of unfair treatment – including saying he’s facing tougher scrutiny than then-Sen.
A Politico story published Friday claimed the retired neurosurgeon admitted to lying about his application and acceptance to West Point, though Carson’s campaign now says it made no such admission.
“We should vet all candidates”. But voters who haven’t followed the controversy closely (i.e. the people Carson still needs to convince) might have been confused by the vague response.
“Where I come from, they call that a lie”, Carson said. At the debate he contrasted his past statements with the evolving explanations Clinton gave for the 2012 terrorist attack on the US diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, which occurred when she was secretary of state.
“Go look on the West Point website, and you’ll see those specific words, ‘full scholarship to West Point, ‘” Carson said on November 8th. At the moment, what seems like the most likely version of events is that Carson saw Westmoreland at a February Detroit event and may have been told that he probably could get into West Point (where all cadets receive a full ride in exchange for post-graduation service) given his credentials.
Now viewed as a front-runner for the Republican nomination, Carson faces intense scrutiny, and that scrutiny should be evident by his counterparts on the platform this evening. But when CNN did an investigation and talked to a lot of his friends, they could not turn up anybody who remembered this knife stabbing incident. “People who know me know that I’m an honest person”.
Carson didn’t address the either-or question, but he said his “tithing” argument is based on proportionality.
Dr. Ben Carson’s numbers have come up as he is now at the top of GOP presidential polls. The highlights: a biblical proverb with a typo (can you catch it?), an autographed photo with George W. and Barbara Bush, a photo of Carson with Cuba Gooding Jr. “I don’t think so”.
Of course it doesn’t do much good to be the frontrunner if you’re immediately sunk by a scandal. “What are we coming to?”
Trump previewed a potential line of attack at a rally in Springfield, Illinois, on the eve of the debate.
