LB Middle School celebrates Veterans Day early

The day before Veteran’s Day is a busy one for students at Coronado Middle School.
From 1947 until his death in 1985, Weeks organized Birmingham’s famed Veterans Day parade.
The ceremony includes students in third through fifth grade.
“I am so proud to call myself an American because of the youth today”, he said.
“We are very excited to welcome the veterans of our community to Indian Valley for the first time this year”, Principal Mike Tighe said.

The students asked about the food. The Army, Marine, Air Force and Coast Guard will also be represented.
“Being a part of the ceremony and putting it together really gives you a sense of accomplishment”, Akers said. Now they make helmets out of Kevlar. In addition, student council will decorate the doors of all staff veterans and they will be recognized during morning announcements.
Then he got to why they were all there. In Canada, Remembrance Day commemorates Canadians who died in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, Afghanistan and in the line of their peacekeeping duties.
After the veterans left, she presented new USA and N.C. flags to replace worn ones flying in front of the high school. Students wrote an essay entitled “Thank You for My Freedom”.

The program included the kindergarten classes singing “God Bless America” and a number of veterans from American Legion Post 51 and parent/staff veterans introduced themselves to the students.
