Disney CEO agrees to join Raiders-Chargers stadium venture
Both the Rams and Raiders formerly played in Los Angeles while the Chargers did so as a member of the American Football League. The Raiders-Chargers partnership is competing with the St. Louis Rams, whose owner, Stan Kroenke, is looking at building a stadium in nearby Inglewood on the sight of the former Hollywood Park race track.
However, National Football League officials are not expected to decide whether any teams will relocate to Los Angeles until January. Disney’s ESPN network holds the rights to broadcast Monday Night Football through 2021 under a contract worth an average $1.9 billion a year. His annual salary for the project will be only $1. The city recently retained stadium consultant Mitchell Ziets to come up with a stadium and financing plan.
“We’ve been supporting the team for 41 years, and we were hoping that loyalty would be returned by the Davis family”, Zelinski said in an interview Wednesday. Rob Schaaf, Republican from St. Joseph, in a phone interview. “Today is about our plan and the tremendous support we have in San Diego”.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger, according to the LA Times, has been appointed by to lead the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders’ proposed Carson stadium project.
Before then, San Diego gave the owners a lot to think about. The committee will also hear 45-minute presentations from St. Louis, Oakland and San Diego stadium organizers. Suffice to say, the Chargers made this announcement work for them just as much as it does for the Raiders.
At that point, the Raiders would likely be drawn to any city that can provide them with a new stadium, which would likely eliminate Oakland. The Raiders had $285 million in revenues in 2014. Through a spokeswoman, Schaaf (no relation to the Missouri state senator) said the city would pay for infrastructure improvements that would serve a new stadium, but she plans to make a case to team owners that Oakland is still the best place for the team. L.A.is a big puzzle that we want to get right.
“It is the number one Hispanic media market in the country”, said E.J. Narcise with Team Services, LLC, a sports marketing consulting firm. “That’s proving to be very hard”.
Of the six owners on the Los Angeles relocation committee, half of them received public subsidies totaling more than half the cost of their new stadiums, according to a report from the economic consulting firm AECOM.
