Heat guard Gerald Green punched man, was combative
The Heat recently announced that they had suspended Green for two games “due to conduct detrimental to the team”. Miami declined to elaborate on his suspension, but Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski reports it was a result of last week’s incident. When he got back to his feet and tried to return to his residence, someone tried to get him to stay in the lobby, and Green punched that person in the right eye.
The police report from last week’s incident in Miami involving Heat guard Gerald Green reveals Green punched an unnamed man at his apartment building on November 4. The fake report spread out far enough to warrant a response from the Miami-Dade police department refuting it.
Spoelstra said he had no concerns about Green being able to fit back into the team dynamic, a sentiment echoed by Heat President Pat Riley.
Police also said that Green was “very loud” and “combative” when paramedics arrived.
“I’ve been around this game for 48 years and he’s a really great kid, great athlete, can really shoot the ball”, he told the Herald. “He’s explosive and we’re going to need him, and I think he’s going to show that to us”. “I accept the suspension and look forward to rejoining my teammates this weekend”.
Before the incident, Green averaged 10.3 points in three games for Miami.
On the basketball court Green’s scoring off the bench was missed in the Heat’s two close losses to the Atlanta Hawks and Indiana Pacers.
The Heat will be without Green for tonight’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers and Thursday’s game vs. the Utah Jazz.
