Roku Gears up for Black Friday
Per tech blogger Dave Zatz, the SE is based on the hardware ID (2710SE), so “we can assume this is a rebadged Roku 1 (2710R)”.
You’re also able to use Roku’s search feature to find movies and TV shows by title, actor or director across over 20 streaming channels, as well as see how much titles cost across streaming services, as you can with Roku’s other models.
The budget-friendly Roku SE is set to be powered by the company’s latest OS, but with offering only 1080p streaming resolution, you will miss out on 4K streaming content, if that is a factor for your streaming options. The “SE” stands for special edition as the player will only be available in limited quantities for the Black Friday weekend. “From 4K UHD streaming with the new Roku 4, to the simple and portable Roku Streaming Stick, to the affordable Roku SE; there’s a Roku player for everyone”.
The new Roku SE player comes with a $50 price tag, that will drop down to a very cool $25 during Black Friday weekend. The company said Wednesday that it will offer special deals for its Roku 3 and Roku Streaming Stick devices as well. The device offers both HDMI and analog video out, but from the looks of it, there won’t be an Ethernet port – so users will have to rely on their home Wi-Fi for internet connectivity. It will come with a recommended retail price of $49.99 a pop, although the reason why it will be slashed to an all-time low of $25 is due to the Black Friday discount.
