Christie: GOP has ‘gotta get a lot smarter’ by attacking Clinton
Bobby Jindal during the Republican debate in Milwaukee on Tuesday was asked to address his state’s record on employment, and his view of the Louisiana economy did not seem to align with that of the moderators, who pointed out that the unemployment rate there is higher than the national average.
Chris Christie and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee suffered a blow after failing to make the main debate stage because of low polling.
Christie, Huckabee, Santorum, and Bobby Jindal apparently are interviewing for new jobs in the event one of these candidates actually win the Presidency.
The format allotted the candidates a full 90 seconds to answer questions, providing more breathing room than most of the previous debates.
“I saw the most disgraceful thing I’ve seen in this entire campaign a few weeks ago”, Christie explained. According to Christie, it was because he didn’t view himself as running against Jindal, but running against Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton. Jindal is behind him at 0.8 percent.
Jindal continued to blast Christie’s record in New Jersey, even after Christie complimented Jindal’s tenure in Louisiana, derisively saying he’d give him a “ribbon for participation and a juice box”. It included four candidates at the back of the pack in the Republican presidential primary race.
The first half of the debate focused mainly on the candidates tax plans – all of which included reducing or abolishing the Internal Revenue Service and cutting social support programs. Christie also addressed the ongoing debate about policing in the United States by accusing the Obama administration of “not standing behind police across the country, allowing lawlessness to reign in this country”.
“She is the real adversary tonight and we ought to stay focused on her”. I feel like he was strong.
Carson says, “People need to be educated on the minimum wage”.
Christie ended on a note of bipartisan hopes: “I will go to Washington … to bring this entire country together for a better future for our children and grandchildren”. I think time will tell how well it went.
Also largely overlooked by the pundits were Christie pointing the finger of blame for the state’s pension crisis on Obamacare – a ridiculous assertion – and his saber rattling over China.
Early on in the debate, there was a crucial moment where the absurdity of Christie’s position became evident. DuHaime claimed Christie “always” avoids the spin room. “This is not different”, DuHaime said.
Goldford described Huckabee and Santorum as both “very good on their feet and very vigorous”, but neither appeared to gain ground in the debate. Those two thoughts are, at best, at odds.
