Daniel, who had been given two months to live over the summer, passed away on Monday after succumbing to spindle cell carcinoma after a three-year battle with the disease.
Daniel Fleetwood, a fan of the “Star Wars” movie franchise, got to view an unedited version of the soon-to-be-released “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” before succumbing to cancer. “He is now one with God and with the force”, she wrote. She wrote on Facebook on November 5. The posts were retweeted by other fans and “Star Wars” castmembers Mark Hamill, Peter Mayhew and John Boyega.
“The Force Awakens” director J.J. Abrams, who lives in the Los Angeles area, called Fleetwood last week to grant him his wish.
“I just read this and am elated for Daniel and his family!”
He also hinted that he realized he had big shoes to fill given what George Lucas was able to do with the first Star Wars movie, “let alone the next ones”.
“Today the wonderful Disney and Lucasfilm made [Daniel’s] final dream come true, in the fantastic typical Disney way, they really do make dreams come true!”
