Wal-Mart Shifts on Black Friday
While a few stores are choosing to stay closed on Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday, Target is making sure everyone knows it is opening its doors at 6 p.m on Thursday!
According to a report from Fortune, Target first began opening stores on Thanksgiving day in 2012 when they opened 9pm The following year they opened an hour earlier, at 8pm, and last year they opened at 6pm. Retail shops will be a popular destination when stores open up at 5AM, but numerous deals will be available online as well. Staples, too, which has previously opened on Thanksgiving, chose to start its in-store sales on Black Friday this year because it wants “our customers and associates to enjoy Thanksgiving their own way”. This may come as a surprise, but retailers being open on Thanksgiving day is a relatively recent development.
Meanwhile, Target also released the preview of its Black Friday events on Monday, including the “10 Days of Deals” promo, which will offer great discounts on electronic devices starting on November 22 until December 1, PC Magazine reported. She added that “millions of families make Black Friday in-store shopping part of their tradition”. And the decision to close on Thanksgiving to give employees time with their families can also lead to increased brand loyalty from shoppers.
