New Video Shows Moments Before Man Goes Overboard
A gay man has been missing at sea since Friday, following an alleged argument with staff while on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship.
“Bernardo ended up getting in a huge altercation and ended up in his cabin where he was furious and ultimately Royal Caribbean security came to the scene”, Winkleman said in a statement.
The video released by Winkleman Wednesday was recorded on Bernardo Elbaz’s cellphone, which he set on a table in the corner of the seventh-floor stateroom as security guards responded to what Broward Sheriff’s detectives said was a domestic dispute.
According to the Sun Sentinel, following a late dinner, Eric Elbaz went to the couple’s cabin while Bernardo stayed at the bar where there was an altercation, a fight and anti-gay remarks.
Shocking video already shows Elbaz clinging onto the lifeboats before he loses his grip and falls into the ocean as horrified witnesses watch from above.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is looking into Elbaz’s death. Royal Caribbean has disputed the allegations.
A screen grab of the video showing the fall shows Bernardo Elbaz holding on before falling.
Another video previously released by the lawyers had shown Elbaz inside the room moments before he jumped.
“He repeatedly referred to them as ‘lipsticks, ‘” Winkleman said.
Winkleman contended Bernardo Elbaz jumped off the ship in protest of the way he was mistreated by staff because he was gay.
The accounts of what preceded the 31-year-old Brazilian filmmaker going overboard differ depending on who’s asked.
“Our ship’s security officers responded to reports of domestic dispute loud enough to be heard from several staterooms away”, Royal Caribbean said in a statement.
But his family’s attorney, Michael Winkleman, insists that’s not true.
The attorney for Bernardo’s husband tried to explain how he went overboard.
However the cruise chain disagrees with Winkleman’s assessment, saying the man jumped of his own accord. That search was called off Saturday.
The cruise ship was about 17 miles from Turks and Caicos and headed to Florida at the time of the incident.
The couple, who live in NY City, had been married a year prior and were on the cruise to celebrate Eric’s 34th birthday.
