NFL notebook: Colts quarterback Andrew Luck could miss six weeks
Luck was expected to be out of commission for anywhere from two-to-six weeks.
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck will be sidelined for two to six weeks after suffering abdominal injuries during Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos.
Those tests revealed that Luck suffered a lacerated kidney as well as a partial tear of an abdominal muscle. Coach Chuck Pagano talked about the injury on Tuesday, saying his quarterback wasn’t too bad after the game but started to really feel soreness on Monday. We needed time, especially on the offensive side with the change at the coordinator position, just to keep progressing and familiarizing everybody with how we call things and do things.
Pagano said they have “all the confidence in the world in Matt Hasselbeck”. What most forget is Luck throwing for 400 yards and three touchdowns in the same game, and almost bringing the Colts back from a huge deficit.
The questions for this season are simple: How do the Colts recover after losing arguably their best player over the next month? “Matt will step right in, he will do a great job and we will win football games with Matt”.
Steelers: The team isn’t ruling out quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for Sunday’s game against Cleveland. The Indianapolis Colts still control the division with a 4-5 record, but without Luck they could become vulnerable between now and the first week of January.
The 40-year-old is 2-0 as the Colts’ starting quarterback, after picking up wins over the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Houston Texans this season.
“We most commonly see this kind of injury associated with motor vehicle crashes or motorbike crashes”, said Dr. Lewis Jacobson, chief of trauma at St. Vincent Trauma Center in Indianapolis. They have a rest this week, and play the Falcons at the Georgia Dome on November 22.
Luck already had been playing with multiple fractured ribs, according to Yahoo Sports.
It’s showed. Luck missed the first two games of his career after getting hurt at Tennessee on September 27. “Andrew will make a full recovery and he will be back in the lineup at a few point”.
