Twitch Lets ‘Rise Of The Tomb Raider’ Viewers Influence Lara Croft’s Fate
The surreal stunt is inspired by the critically-acclaimed “Rise of the Tomb Raider”, which is set in Siberia, and the ultimate victor of the challenge is to be decided by the voting public.
When developers Crystal Dynamics rebooted the Tomb Raider video game series in 2013, telling the origin story of Lara Croft, the game showed her in a new light: as a survivor. Players broadcasting their game on Twitch while playing Expedition Modes like Score Attack and Chapter Replay will let their viewers vote on gameplay changing cards. By making the streams interactive and unlocking gifts that require buying a game to redeem, it could have a very positive influence on marketing and sales for a title. These rewards are redeemed using the in-game marketplace.
This feature is completely optional, so players who want to have full control of Lara’s fate don’t have to worry about viewers messing with their game. Images from a the Survival Billboard test run are available in the gallery below.
Gamers who tune in to watch Rise of the Tomb Raider being played via the Twitch application on Xbox One will be rewarded with gifts for viewing someone complete a special event in the single-player game. But it’s understandable that the feature is only allowed on certain game modes; if someone messed up our campaign missions with crappy cards, we’d be pretty furious.
Both the PS4 and Xbox One have native options for streaming gameplay content on Twitch, and the notion of bringing others into your gameplay experience is a prevailing thought behind creating a number of games these days.
