Akron plane pilots were very experienced
As many as nine people were feared dead after a small private jet crashed into an apartment building in the midwestern U.S. city of Akron, local media reported, citing the plane’s owner.
Officials confirmed Wednesday that nine people were killed when the business jet they were in crashed into an OH apartment building.
Weaver worked at Pebb Enterprises, a Boca Raton-based firm, which posted its condolences for the seven employees killed and a fundraising link for the victims’ families on its main website homepage. However, Associated Press cited family members of the enterprise which included a Diane Smoot were among the victims.
NTSB Vice Chairman Bella Dinh-Zarr says investigators will remain at the site for several days.
Officials at the crash site are getting help from a forensics team from Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania, that specializes in recovering human remains at crime scenes and crash sites.
The NTSB says investigators at it’s lab in Washington have completed an initial download from the planes cockpit voice recorder. No one on board the plane survived the crash. The left wing first hit the ground, leaving a “witness mark”, before the aircraft continued into a four-unit apartment building and then up an embankment.
The plane in question flew from the Dayton-Wright Brothers airport, Miamisburg, Ohio, at about 2:13 p.m. and was headed to the Akron Fulton Airport.
“The airplane that landed beforehand was on that same frequency; they stated that they did not hear any distress calls or anything of that nature”, Silliman said.
“A lot of confusion”, he said.
It crashed Tuesday afternoon in Akron as it approached the small airport where it was to land.
The plane burst into flames and disintegrated.
“We’re moving as quick as possible because we know the families want their loved ones back for a proper burial”, he said.

“The Red Cross is helping assist with those families whether it’s food, clothing and giving them the opportunity to put them up hotels”, he said.
