Refugee crisis: Sweden introducing border checks to ‘bring order’ to country’s
Border controls are welcome news to a few.

MALCOLM BRABANT: Fighting between the Taliban and the national army in the Afghan city of Kunduz has driven this family of seven to seek refuge in Scandinavia. The Swedish police will be monitoring trains and ferries that arrive from mainland Europe and those without the proper documents will be stopped.
Using laws to protect internal security, Swedish ministers have imposed temporary border controls.
The restrictions will begin at midday and last for the next ten days.
The government has also applied to the European Commission to arrange for a few of those to be moved to other EU countries.

In neighboring Sweden, more than a dozen refugee shelters have been damaged or destroyed in recent weeks in a wave of suspected arson attacks.
Sweden is introducing temporary border controls to halt the influx of refugees and to screen those trying to enter the country illegally. With all of these European countries closing their borders, there are concerns that the Schengen zone, an important marker of a unified Europe, will eventually collapse.
“Children are disappearing every day now, it’s not acceptable”, he said.
“The Prime Minister will be emphasising to the Africans that they have got to work with us on returns”.
Tensions soared Wednesday as Croatia announced a formal protest note to Slovenia saying sections of the fence are on Croatian territory. The foreign ministry insisted that Slovenia remove the fence.
The communications director of Sweden’s migration office, Mikael Hvinlund, said 80,000 migrants had arrived in September, nearly as many as in the whole of 2014. According to a report by Reuters, Sweden is expected to see about 190,000 asylum-seekers entering the country. That hasn’t stemmed the flow of migrants, but German authorities say it’s given them more control of the situation.
Until Thursday, the half-hour ride over the Oresund Bridge separating Denmark and Sweden had no checks, under the European union’s border-free Schengen agreement.
“We are not fulfilling our mission, which is to offer a roof to everyone…Re-establishing border controls can help us”, he said.
He said the European Union needs “to discuss what the rules should look like”. We need another system.
After early on in the crisis declaring it would give all refugees from Syria permanent residency, Sweden has turned into a magnet for asylum seekers.
