Harry Kane: ‘Tottenham Hotspur can challenge the top four’
The England striker scored his sixth goal in four matches to give Spurs the lead in Sunday’s north London derby, only to see hosts Arsenal snatch a point through substitute Kieran Gibbs.
Arsenal and Manchester United, both of whom – like Tottenham – had academy graduates on the score sheet this weekend, follow Spurs as the next best teams for club-trained players with 24 per cent and 20 per cent respectively.
Spurs are unbeaten since August and – alongside Leicester City and West Ham – now stand the most realistic chance of sneaking into the top four.
Indeed, since their opening day defeat to Manchester United (a game they were unlucky to lose), Spurs have quietly gone about their buisness and have nearly become dark horses this season.
“So it wasn’t like we were hanging on for a point or hanging on for the 1-0 – we were still playing well”.
One catalyst for the electric form is Harry Kane, who after a slow start has hit six goals in his last three outings to take his league tally to seven. In all the games… we probably deserved to win against Liverpool, we beat Manchester City and probably maybe deserved to win [at Arsenal] as well.
“They completely overpowered Arsenal, who didn’t have a clue about what to do for the best part of 70 minutes really”.
Jermaine Jenas believes his former side Tottenham should be targetting the Premier League title rather than a top four finish.
“The team has improved and also Chelsea are not so well placed in the league, and they were one of the teams expected to be fighting for the top positions”. This year we are closer than in other years.
The last time Tottenham Hotspur were in the Champions League was the 2010-11 season when they had megastar Gareth Bale.
“We are getting better and that is important. But of course if you don’t kill teams off like Arsenal or the top teams, you get punished and that’s what happened but a point away at the Emirates isn’t the worst result in the world”. This team is young and we have a lot of desire to improve. We’ve just got to concentrate on ourselves, try not to think about the teams around us.
