Rouhani to be first Iran president visiting Europe in decade
He then added that Iran does not believe in a two-state solution.
He further noted that the urgent state of Iran-US ties would continue until the USA side changes its behavior.
“We are two great, independent countries, two great civilizations”.
Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani said on Monday that Tehran can help the European Union (EU) boost its economic ties with countries in the region.
Rouhani, who earlier had said the nuclear deal with world powers could pave the way for a warming of relations between Teheran and Washington, did not go into detail as to what exactly the US must apologize for.
“The President [of France] will receive the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rouhani on November 17 on the occasion of his official visit to France…” “Under the new conditions, Italy can be one of the most important partners for us”.
Rouhani conducted an interview with Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, during which he suggested that embassies could be reopened in Washington and Tehran, ending decades of distrust and hostility.
“Today Iran decided more than ever to honor commitments regarding nuclear accord, provided that our partners in the Security Council and Germany respect their engagement”, Rouhani told French broadcaster Europe 1 and France2 TV channel.
This volume of French opposition to the Rouhani trip is not surprising given that Paris is the headquarters for the National Council of Resistance of Iran, the primary coalition of resistance to the theocratic government in Tehran.
Rouhani and Hollande are still set to meet to discuss Syria, the fight against terrorism and the Iranian nuclear deal. The country is quite averse to Western influence and has always been wary of Americans and Europeans. German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, on a trip to Tehran last month, urged cooperation with companies including Volkswagen AG and Siemens AG in a meeting with Industry and Trade Minister Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh, the IRNA news agency reported. He said, “We are a nation of Judeo-Christian tradition”.
