Fair or not, Tony Romo seen as Cowboys’ last hope for season
The Eagles improved to 4-4 on the season and sit just a half game back of the NY Giants, who have played one more game to date than Philadelphia, for first place in the NFC East. Not the ideal position to be sitting in at this time, but a far cry from the state of panic the organization seemed to be in over the better part of the first half of the season.
Tony Romo is coming back, even if it’s too late to save the Dallas Cowboys’ season.
“We understand. We can add and subtract”, Jones said. The 11-on-11 work in practice is the closest they can get him to game action.
The much-anticipated three-headed monster of Murray, Ryan Mathews and Darren Sproles has finally emerged, with no less than 158 yards between them in each of the last four games. This is what we all get paid for. But they’re 1-10 on the road under coach Jay Gruden, including 0-4 this season.
Two Sundays ago, the Seattle Seahawks drove 79 yards in 17 plays in the closing minutes for the game-winning field goal in a 13-12 victory. He could seek a starting job with another team in the off-season, but, having enjoyed his time with the Cowboys, he could return as Romo’s backup next season.
-The Cowboys defense is just as responsible for the six-game losing streak as is the loss of quarterback Tony Romo. “All this stuff about how we play is important. It’s our fault. We have to suck it up, keep going and get better”.
The Cowboys clearly had lost faith in Brandon Weeden earlier this year after he lost all three of his starts. The Cowboys could be trying to even their record when they visit the Redskins on December 7. “So every week I’m here, every week I’m on the field, I feel like I’ve grown and gotten better”. But the spirit we played with, the relentlessness we played with, the fight that we played with, makes me know the kind of guys we have on our football team. Romo will likely only miss one more game, and he’s gone 14-4 in his last 18 regular-season games.
-Wide receiver Dez Bryant returned to form against the Eagles in what was his second game back after missing six with a fractured foot. Coughlin’s team has quit on him after tough losses the past couple of years, so the fact that they’ve bounced back with wins after the demoralizing defeats to Philly and New Orleans the past month should definitely be taken as a positive. “But then you have to do those things at the end of the ballgame to win the game”.
Cassel, 33, has completed 61.1 percent of his passes for 623 yards with four touchdowns, four interceptions and a 78.2 passer rating.
But, fair or not, Romo is viewed as the one player who can salvage the season. Either should be plenty enough to win this sucky division, but if the improvement continues, Philadelphia might actually win a playoff game or two.
“I think they’d be out of it if it wasn’t for the division”, Staubach told USA TODAY Sports on Tuesday.
James Starks (Green Bay): Starks has significantly outplayed Eddie Lacy this season, including this past week where Lacy totaled just 10 yards on five carries while Starks had 122 total yards.
Martin is key for the Tampa Bay offense as they try to force the run to take pressure off rookie quarterback Jameis Winston.
