BMW Motorrad reveals G 310 R sub-500 cc roadster
German big-bike manufacturer, BMW Motorrad has revealed their first lightweight motorcycle BMW G310R.
It is still unclear whether or not the BMW G 310 R will make it to American shores with emphasis being placed on the markets that the motorcycle was designed for – Asia, South America and Europe. The front wheel suspension is taken care of by a solid upside-down fork while at the rear there is an aluminium swinging arm in conjunction with a spring strut that is mounted on it directly. The engine is tilted backwards and the cylinder head is turned 180 degrees so the intake track is at the front. Stopping power comes from a 300 mm front disc brake with radially bolted 4-piston fixed caliper, and a 240 mm rear disc rotor with a 2-piston floating caliper, both governed by ABS as standard. The bike rides on 110/70 R17 section tyres at the front and 150/60 R17 section tyres at rear.
Power is a bit low at just 34 hp and 20 lb-ft, but its incredibly low weight means that power is quickly utilized; the G 310 R weighs just under 350 pounds.
Sophisticated ergonomics and multifunctional instrument cluster.
Seat height is 31 inches (785 mm), but BMW is offering optional seats that can lower that to 30 inches (760 mm) or raise it to 31.5 inches (800 mm) for taller riders. Case in point, the electric C evolution beats the S 1000 RR when accelerating to speeds up to 60 km/h (37 km/h). The price is expected to be 2 lakhs for this TVS partnered BMW bike, which will be competing with the new releases KTM Duke twins, the Mahindra Mojo and the Kawasaki Z250, reports Cartoq.
