No. 4 Baylor goes for 3rd straight win over No. 12 Oklahoma
“Well, we’ve improved”, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops told reporters.
The Sooners (8-1, 5-1, No. 15) always figured to give the Bears a tough test in their road to perfection, but it was the Horned Frogs – Big 12 co-champs a year ago – that everyone pointed to as the big late-season matchup.
The lead is an important thing to have. “The guy is completing 77 percent of his passes, and I thought he did a really good job just going to the right guys”.
Baylor could never find a rhythm in set two despite a. 231 hitting percentage, and another strong Horned Frog hitting performance forced Baylor down 2-0 at the break. They’ve won eight straight games and have scored 38 or more in six of those wins.
The Bears came up with an interception to seal the win. 2 higher than Griffin’s during his Heisman season, while his preposterous 29 touchdowns had already matched Petty’s total from previous year. “It kind of solidified and just kind of spoke that we can beat them”, said Drango, now a senior All-America left tackle. “We have to do what we do and do it better than what they do”. Before that, they were even with the opponents in first-quarter points. The two Texas schools meet on November 27. “Now I have the chance to repeat and make it a big game again”. So, yeah, TCU can get back in it. But Gary Patterson’s squad will need some help and good fortune over these next few weeks.
So the Bears welcome Saturday’s spotlight, which includes a pregame visit from ESPN’s College GameDay program, because it offers a platform to convince the naysayers that they’re wrong.
TV: 7 p.m., ABC.
This game has very large implications on the College Football Playoff picture. Defensively [we’re] coming up with pressure and getting turnovers and a lot of good stops.
That record is keeping me from wallowing in the misery of my 1-9 mark in Games of the Week the last month. The Cowboys lost just one starter from last season and will be led by 165-pounder Alex Dieringer, who will be going for his third national title. The start isn’t what crippled them in either game. It’s sad that the last Saturday home game has arrived. Oklahoma’s Cody Brewer is back after a surprise run through the field at last year’s NCAA meet at 133 pounds. Establish the running game earlier, and use the pass when you’re going for the throat. That is bound to happen when the team has a less than stellar start, but having that drama spill over onto Twitter?
The Sooners have had three different starting quarterbacks in their last three games with Baylor. Rallying from 17 points down to win in front of 100,000 fans at Tennessee showed that.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys can not afford to slip up, either, with a home game against Baylor on deck.
And that, everyone, is the definition of playing defense in the Big 12.
But none of those Baylor victories, including back-to-back triumphs over OU by a combined margin of 89-26 the past two years, have earned the Bears the type of national respect they believe they are due from college football analysts, rival coaches or members of the CFP selection committee. “If you don’t got a knot in your stomach about it and if you haven’t had it there the entire offseason, I don’t think you really buy into what we’re doing as a team, because I think it’s been everywhere”.
