Alabama Officers Suspended After Violent Student Arrests
“I’m glad this is all on video“, the woman said.
The video appears to show Tuscaloosa police officers dragging three students from an apartment while tasing one and beating another with a baton. Another student is then thrown to the ground next to him.
One student was dragged from the residence, beaten several times with a nightstick, and shocked with a stun gun.
“He is under arrest”, the officer can be heard saying.
In the second video, you see the events shot from inside the apartment. When he was told that the incident was being videotaped, he said, “I don’t give a s–“.
Three University of Alabama students who were arrested and charged after an incident early Sunday morning were identified Monday in a press release.
The video shows the officers arguing with students in the apartment who refuse to leave. The officer then grabs the student while shouting, “Get the f*** out of the apartment”. What we do see is blurry but still pretty clear (as far as what went down).
Three police officers are under investigation in Alabama after their police chief says excessive force was used in the arrest of three students.
A four-minute video (watch it above) shows the students telling an officer he is illegally entering their apartment.
The officer doesn’t respond but suddenly runs inside, followed by several other officers.
“We’re going to check out every officer’s actions”, Anderson stated. The review began after videos of the incident began showing up online.
Israel Hernandez-Llach was spray-painting an abandoned McDonald’s and ran away when confronted, failing to heed officers’ commands to stop, according to police accounts.
The names of the three Tuscaloosa Police officers who are off the job have been released. “It creates a black eye on the department and on the city of Tuscaloosa”, he continued.
He added: “At the very least, the police are doing a very poor job of communicating what they are trying to accomplish”. Police also confirmed in a Facebook post that an internal affairs investigation was underway.
“We are here to protect and serve and do a job”, he said. Her father told me by phone his daughter is not physically hurt but emotionally, “she is pretty upset”. “No, but there’s no need to fear us or fear our officers”.
The student who was tased declined to comment to the newspaper.
