Magic’s Oladipo leaves game with concussion
He felt like 120 percent when it was over.
No sooner did the Magic take a 1-point lead on a corner 3 by Aaron Gordon and the Lakers marched right down the court to take the lead right back. The shot was Vucevics 1st buzzer beater to win a game at any level.
“I was running around like an idiot, just pretty excited”.
Bryant said his back has never bothered him before. “The shot was probably more luck than skill, though, because I had to loft it up so high”.
Vucevic has quietly emerged as a leader on the rebuilding Orlando Magic. He finished with 18 points and five rebounds. Meanwhile, the Lakers had 14 miscues that led to 21 Orlando points. He said after the game that he hopes to play Friday in Dallas. So he faded and fired over Hibbert. “He got one off”.
The Lakers were steered by a balanced attack led by Hibbert’s 15 points, six rebounds, and three blocks.
D’ANGELO RUSSELL: “I don’t think it came down to the end”.
F Julius Randle had 12 points, including six in the final five minutes. Magic G Elfrid Payton was 1 for 13 from the field and scored two points. “I was just glad the coach (Scott Skiles) had confidence in me to take the last shot”.
SCOTT: “Defensively on this road trip we’ve gotten so much better and we’ve got to continue to get better”. “Coach is constantly finding guys to give us sparks and to find a good rhythm”.
“I’ll talk to Gary and talk to Byron about it when I can’t physically be out there to play”, Bryant said. “So it just kind of comes and goes”. He will ultimately need to be symptom-free after inactivity, conditioning work and basketball drills before he is allowed to return to the practice and then game action. “Hopefully by Friday I’ll be ready”. The Lakers aren’t truly second guessing the pick of Russell, as he is just 19 and has years to develop, but the play of Kristaps Porzingis has made a few around the National Basketball Association wonder whether LA should have went that route. As the 3rd quarter came to a close Vucevic once again provided an offensive spark to keep the Magic within striking distance of the Lakers. Both Fournier and Frye had 10 points before halftime. Ultimately it’s for the better, and the Lakers’ are making due with a surprisingly effective Metta World Peace in his place.
With the game tied at 99, Lou Williams attempted a 20-foot jumper, but his shot didn’t hit the rim. He had seven in the first quarter.
Russell wasn’t the only Lakers’ rookie worth taking notes on in Orlando, though.
On the other side, Vucevic returned to the Magic lineup after three games on the shelf with a bone bruise in his right knee.
With the injury bug hitting them hard – the team was already without big man Jason Smith and reserve guard C.J. Oladipo looked woozy, struggling to run, and he exited the game at the next stoppage in play.
