Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck OUT For 2-6 Weeks
On Tuesday the Indianapolis Colts announced that Andrew Luck will miss 2-6 weeks with a torn ab muscle and lacerated kidney. Backup QB Matt Hasselbeck, who is 40 years old, will step into the leading position this month.
Luck only had one fourth-quarter scramble against Denver, on the second play of the quarter, when he took a brutal hit to the midsection from Broncos linebacker Danny Trevathan.
“We’re going to keep listening to the doctors and evaluating his progress on a week-by-week basis”, Colts coach Chuck Pagano said. The injury includes a kidney laceration and a partial abdominal tear. He was sidelined with a mysterious shoulder injury that at one point put him behind a recently hospitalized Matt Hasselbeck on the depth chart. Luck amazingly stayed in the game and helped the team finish off a victory. Hasselbeck has already started two games this season, both division wins. Surgery will not be required.
The Colts got their most significant win last weekend to move to 4-5 on the season. “If people have any questions about player injuries, they should refer to our injury reports”, Colts general manager Ryan Grigson said in a statement, denying the report by Glazer.
The rest of the Colts schedule shakes out like this: at Falcons, vs. Buccaneers, at Steelers, at Jaguars, vs. Texans, at Dolphins, vs. Titans.
“When you take a hit with your franchise quarterback and all that stuff, it is a tough blow”, Pagano said.
“We will overcome this, and Andrew will make a full-recovery”.
But the timing couldn’t be worse as Luck is coming off his best performance of the season against the top-ranked Broncos defense.
“When it’s like this, you kind of want to just dig a hole and hide for a little while”.
