National Hockey League Thursday recap – Rangers achieved 7th consecutive win
Zuccarello finished with three points and was one of six Rangers with multiple-point efforts against St. Louis.
The Rangers chased goalie Jake Allen, who had carried a shutout streak of 166 minutes into the game, with three goals on five shots in 14:38, and Elliott replaced him.
Rookie goaltender Linus Ullmark made 36 saves to help the Buffalo Sabres beat the Florida Panthers 3-2, while the Minnesota Wild came from two goals down to force overtime against the Carolina Hurricanes, and then won it through Jason Zucker’s second goal of the game.
Brassard snapped Allen’s scoreless streak at 170:53 when he got position just off the left post and snapped in Zuccarello’s feed from behind the crease at 4:54 of the first period on the Rangers’ first shot.
Adam Henrique and Palmieri scored in the second to put New Jersey ahead, Cory Schneider made 27 saves and the Devils rebounded after a 2-0 loss to St. Louis on Tuesday night.
The Blues may have fallen 6-3, but still sit at 11-4-1 and 2nd in the Central Division of the Western Conference.
Suddenly, NY led 2-0 on just two shots. As his teammates have said, his level of competition is at an all time high.
Girardi’s empty-net goal at 18:26 of the third ended the scoring. “We’ve done it three or four times this year already”.
“We knew they were going to have a push but 75 percent of their offense was coming off our puck management”, Vigneault said.
But following further goals for both sides, the Rangers demonstrated their recent fine form, cementing victory in the final period with strikes from Ryan McDonagh and Dan Girardi. Tyler Bozak scored in the third period for the Maple Leafs, and James Reimer turned aside all five Nashville attempts in the tiebreaker. “He’s been so great for us that we need to be better for him when we can”.
NY also did a nice job of keeping the Blues at bay in the final frame, holding them to just eight shots on net.
“He’s one of the best players in the game”, Lundqvist said.
I thought Keith Yandle struggled tremendously in this one while Dan Boyle was pretty good.
The Blues may have fed more fervor into the #roarbacon phenomenon, the social-media mishap that grew legs after the comeback in Chicago, but they made the game interesting on a few occassions. I really like Etem’s work ethic and his offensive skills, and I think he is a good kid who has shown promise in many of his outings. But each time the club pulled to within one goal, NY stretched its lead to two.
Reports from Friday’s practice in Greenburgh indicated Moore will be back in the lineup Saturday afternoon against the Senators here in Ottawa.
St. Louis Blues left wing Alexander Steen (20) shoots through his legs toward NY Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist (30), of Sweden, in the first period of an NHL hockey game in NY, Thursday, November 12, 2015.
“It’s going to be a big, heavy, man’s game”, fourth-line center Jarret Stoll said Thursday morning.
“I felt like even though we were up, the game could go either way the way it was played”, Lundqvist said.
