Man claims in lawsuit Gliniewicz, investigators targeted him
Randolph noted that Gliniewicz was “frequently in the vicinity of the bus stop”. Keller agreed: “He was put on a pedestal”, even though his fellow officers distrusted him – so much so that none attended a party earlier this year for Gliniewicz’s 30th year on the force, Keller said. The lawsuit states that he was “surrounded by ATF agents with guns pointed at him”, and that his elementary school-age daughter was subjected to search and investigation. An African-American man claims in the lawsuit that he was harassed and intimidated by the deceased Fox Lake officer because he was black. When none were found, Gliniewicz asked him for names and said that he would “make something happen to him” if Randolph did not “make something happen for him”. “It’s an indescribable feeling”, said Vernon Randolph Jr., plaintiff’s father.
The village says it’s reviewing the lawsuit and will defend itself against the claims. “It’s an undescribable feeling”. “Officer Gliniewicz had followed him around, had seen him on numerous occasions, making gestures of pointing to his eyes, like I’m watching you and things like that”, O’Connor said.
The incident prompted a massive manhunt and a months-long investigation that ultimately determined Gliniewicz’s death was a “carefully staged suicide” and the “end result of extensive criminal acts”. That basement is packed to the rafters with military equipment, which investigators say the Explorers, and their controversial leader, Lt. Joe Gliniewicz, never should have had. It’s not known if Battaglia was one of the “sources” media outlets had quoted in the days following Gliniewicz’s staged suicide.
He gave teenagers their own keys and 24-hour access to the police department.
Investigators also say Gliniewicz discussed meeting with a gang member, possibly to arrange killing the village administrator in Fox Lake, with whom he said he had clashed over the Explorer program and its assets.
The lawsuit accuses the village and its officials of allowing “Gliniewicz to remain on the Village of Fox Lake Police Department knowing the extent of his misconduct and/or disregard for the department’s policies regarding police misconduct”.
