Bill Cosby deposition put on hold
Dickinson’s defamation suit is one of four filed against the comedian in the past year. Cosby’s lawyers were expected to file a response Friday, November 13, 2015, to a defamation lawsuit filed previous year in federal court in MA.
Though the stipulation does not name the new plaintiffs, the NY Times identifies them as Barbara Bowman, Joan Tarshis, Louisa Moritz and Angela Leslie.
All four women said that after they came forward with their stories of abuse, Cosby’s representatives publicly branded them as liars and their comments were labeled as “absurdity”.
Both Cosby and his former attorney Martin Singer were ordered to give sworn testimony regarding the former supermodel’s claims that the comedian drugged and raped Dickinson in 1982. Cosby has denied a few of the allegations and has never been charged with a crime. The model’s lawsuit says the denial amounts to defamation.
Cosby’s legal team has argued in court that he should not have to be deposed until Dickinson demonstrates “a reasonable possibility of success on her claims, which Ms. Dickinson has not yet attempted to show”, Pressley added.
Bill Cosby just got a few good news… a court has ruled his insurance company may have to foot the bill in the event he loses his sexual assault case to Janice Dickinson.
As a result, Dickinson has sued Cosby for defamation, claiming Cosby criticized her account “with the intent and effect of re-victimizing her and destroying the professional reputation she’s spent decades building”.
Marshall Searcy III, who is listed as Cosby’s attorney in the suit by the seven women, declined to comment.
Cosby has so far been named in six separate civil lawsuits. On Thursday, however, a 2nd District Court of Appeal put them on ice, according to the Los Angeles Times. “The stories are getting more ridiculous”, Singer said.
