One Direction on New Album: ‘It’s Our Best One’
They act moody and artsy – but that’s not what One Direction is known for.
For starters, let’s just say the group has graduated from its “What Makes You Beautiful” pop song days and has moved onto tracks that sound like they had the Beatles and the Bee Gees in mind. Despite its influences, Made in the A.M. is a more mature, welcomed change from our beloved foursome.
The new album, which in reality is not really “new”, encompasses everything One Direction seems to have ever been about. Though whether or not the boys actually have their girl is up for debate. It’s a big, loud, opener that’s certain to grab the listener’s attention but will probably get lost by the time you’ve finished listening through it. “Drag Me Down” and “Perfect” were released earlier in the year as the singles from the album. /We’re just swimming in our glass, and talking out of our asses./ This song is the many nights spent laughing about the most inane, unimportant, things with your best friend. In typical form, though, the song might be the album’s most laidback, a rootsy campfire jam with hollered vocals and live-sounding hand claps.
Erm, Zayn, you’ve got a little something…
“That is one of my favorite parts of [putting out a record], taking something One Direction and [remixing] it into dance music, because we’re not really the most … dance-music band in the world”. As well as, prominent song, writers Payne and Tomlinson, just ended long term relationships. It could be about a place or time or something where it touched you and you feel you can personify that in a song. Not only is this song just straight up awesome, the music video is also flawless.
One Direction has said “Love You Goodbye”. “It’s kind of saying, ‘No matter what happens, we’re always going to have this.’ We felt like it was the right way to end the album”. The epitome is “I Want to Write You a Song,”whose slow hymn is only a faux attempt to add meaning to bland and childlike lyrics like “I want to build you a boat / One that’s as strong as you are free”. One of the most notable spats happened in May, after United Kingdom producer Naughty Boy leaked a solo track he made with Malik and Tomlinson accused him of “riding on the back of someone else’s career”.
“It was a tough time”, explained Horan.
