Palestinian youths stab Jerusalem Light Rail guard
Israeli forces shot and severely wounded two Palestinians, one of them 12 years old, after they were allegedly involved in two separate stabbing attacks on Israelis in occupied East Jerusalem on Tuesday.
After the first suspect was shot, “passengers on the tram rushed to the second terrorist and overcame him”, said Israeli police spokesperson Luba Samri.
Moments before the incident, Israeli forces detained two Palestinian children following another alleged attack that took place on Jerusalem’s light rail.
The Israeli army arrested 24 Hamas activists in the Qalqilya area in the West Bank on Tuesday night, the Shin Bet security agency reported.
Arab League (AL) foreign ministers have held an emergency meeting to discuss ways to end Israel’s “dangerous escalation” of violence against Palestinians. Jerusalem has been a frequent target of attackers, but had enjoyed period of relative quiet over the past two weeks as the unrest was focused primarily in the West Bank.
In addition to stabbings, Palestinians have also carried out shooting attacks and have rammed their cars into groups of Israelis.
One of Ahmed’s lawyers, Palestinian Tariq Barghout, said the clip was a “compilation” of moments from the full 4.5-hour interrogation, which he said he had viewed.
The Palestinians seek all of the West Bank, captured by Israel from Jordan in the1967 Mideast war, as part of a future independent state.
According to the indictment, Manasra and his cousin Hassan, 15, stabbed two Israelis in an east Jerusalem neighborhood in mid-October. Police fatally shot Hassan and a passing auto ran over Manasra.
The security camera footage, released by Israeli authorities in the wake of the attack, purported to show the cousins – knives in hand – following the Israeli victims.
The case became a lightning rod for both sides in the Israeli-Palestinian divide after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas erroneously claimed in a televised speech that Israelis had “summarily executed” Ahmed. One of the officers shouts at him, “Is this you, this person?” as the teen cries and says he doesn’t remember.

Hagit Ofran of the anti-settlement group Peace Now said that it could be years before any of the homes are built since the plan must pass several other phases before construction can begin.
