Manuel inactive Thursday against Jets
There is an axiom in this league that states NFL coaches enjoy beating their friends, they love beating their enemies and they must beat the guy they replaced.
Todd Bowles doesn’t think the Jets are trending downward despite the team losing three of its last four games, including a 22-17 heartbreaker to Rex Ryan and the Bills on Thursday night. “It just didn’t work out”. However, Thursday’s result doubly enhanced the Bills’ hopes of ending an NFL-long 15-year playoff drought while laying a twin blow to the postseason aspirations of the Jets, who lost for the third time in four games. “I think it’s our responsibility as a team”.
“But we have to win the game”. “It’s as simple as that”.
The Bills were using wireless communication systems for Thursday night’s game but used wired headsets in London last month, when the team also experienced coach-to-quarterback communication problems during their 34-31 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. His pride and joy, the defense, had two interceptions, recovered a fumble and stopped the Jets inside the Bills 10 in the final minutes.
“Yeah, you don’t care how bad you look”, Ryan said, with a laugh on Friday.
“Every guy in this room has been dumped by a girl. Every now and then they call you back, but they can’t have you back”. “It was a very frustrating game, especially when they hand us a gift and drop the punt”.
“We’re in the middle of the pack with everybody else”, Bowles said. Fitzpatrick lofted a ball in the end zone that went over the head of Davis and the Bills took over on downs. Davis, who said he was the No. 1 read, didn’t see the ball coming and reacted too late.
Added Decker: “We both got caught up”.
For all of his flaws and missteps in the first half of the season, Ryan deserves credit for how he handled this team over the bye week. The Jets Ryan Fitzpatrick was inconsistent with a meager 57.6 quarterback rating.
“Going into this game we had a bunch of check with me stuff in the run game at the line based on the different fronts that we saw in our film study and just preparation”, said Tyrod Taylor. The running game, led by Chris Ivory, again struggled.
With the game tied at 3, Duke Williams scooped up a fumble by rookie Devin Smith on the first kickoff return of his career. Instead, the Jets kicked an extra point to cut the lead to 12 and needed two touchdowns to have a chance. New kicker Randy Bullock was flawless, making a 29-yard field goal and two PATs.
What Happened: Rex Ryan got revenge on his former team at MetLife Stadium in a mostly defensive battle, moving ahead of the Jets in the standings for the AFC Wild Card. This play turned a potential game-winning drive into a learning experience for the Jets. My loser lead was an epic rant, the gist of which was, “How many new, inventive, and downright deplorable ways can the Bills find to lose games?” He was well covered and thrown for a 2-yard loss, then limped off, but returned on the Jets’ next series. Despite the inauspicious start on Thursday, Ridley should become the Jets’ No. 2 back now that RB Zac Stacy (broken ankle) is out for the season. The Bills were ranked sixth against the run and were facing a Jets team that has struggled lately to move the ball on the ground.
