Ford India recalls over 16000 EcoSport SUVs
The recalled vehicles were manufactured between November 2013 and April 2014 at a factory near Chennai.
Ford India has already started contacting the concerned customers to get their vehicles inspected at a local Ford dealer.
The company said that in a few of the affected vehicles, there is a possibility that the Rear Twist Beam bolt may not be tightened to the specification, which may cause the pivot bolt to break.
Ford India on Friday announced a recall of 16,444 units of its sports utility vehicle (SUV) EcoSport to inspect the rear twist beam bolt. Furthermore, necessary rework, if at all, will be done free of charge at the respective dealerships. This could affect the way the vehicle handles and could result in an accident, although none have been reported so far.
This is the third recall of the EcoSport SUV, the highest selling model in Ford India’s portfolio.
It recalled 972 EcoSports soon after the launch in mid-2013 to relocate the glow plug module and 20,700 units in December previous year to fix problems with the front airbag and fuel line.
Automobile manufacturers have been recalling vehicles on safety issues since industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) initiated a voluntary policy in July 2012.
