Dozens gather in NSW for Paris victims
Auckland’s Sky Tower will also be lit by the colours of the French flag to show solidarity with Paris in the wake of today’s terrorist attacks.
NSW Premier Mike Baird was among hundreds of Sydneysiders who gathered in the CBD to show solidarity with the Paris terror attack victims.
Earlier, the United States hockey team Washington Capitals tweeted this attractive photo of the ice hockey stadium glowing in the colours ahead of four NHL games.
NSW Premier Mike Baird wrote on Twitter that illuminating the Sydney Opera House was a “great idea”, and said he was working on making it happen.
The Opera House is often lit up, such as for the Vivid festival or the Rugby World Cup.
Mr Baird added that he had also asked for a French flag to fly over the Harbour Bridge.
The gesture of honouring those who have died in the terror attacks across Paris on Friday Night has been shared across the world with iconic monuments and buildings lighting up, including Christ the Redeemer in Brazil and One World Trade center in NY. Its 408 foot (124-meter spire) is so large it can be seen across much of America’s largest city.
Other U.S. buildings also lit themselves in the colours of the French flag, including San Francisco’s city hall and Texas’ Omni Hotel.
“Today’s horrific attacks in Paris have moved us all, and the more we learn, the more our hearts ache”, he said. The image was re-tweeted thousands of times.
