Appeals court temporarily halts upcoming Cosby deposition
The move comes as four more women plan to join a federal lawsuit against the comedian, claiming he sexually abused them and later defamed them by letting his representatives publicly label their stories lies.
The former Cosby Show star has been accused of sexual abuse by more than 50 women, and several have launched civil action. On Tuesday, Kristina Ruehli sued Cosby for defamation, after he called her a liar for saying he raped her in 1965.
“I was incredibly shaken by that”, Tarshis, a NY resident, said Friday.
Tarshis said she met Cosby in 1969 when she was a young aspiring comedian. She claimed in a previous interview with TMZ that she was in the green room of the “Tonight Show” when Cosby, a frequent guest host, knocked on the door. According to her lawsuit, Cosby later contacted her directly and invited her to Las Vegas to “audition” by acting intoxicated.
Because of the historic nature of a few of the claims they fall outside of the time limit for charges to be brought.
The notice said both sides agree that all seven women will take a single deposition from Cosby.
AIG and Cosby are still fighting other issues, but this one’s a big win for the comedian.
‘This is their opportunity to have their day in court and to attempt to restore their good name and reputation’. Another Cosby attorney, Monique Pressley, did not respond to a request for comment.
In her lawsuit, she says after she came forward with the allegations Cosby’s lawyer and publicist made statements meant to expose her to public contempt and ridicule.
On Thursday, Drexel and Bryant universities announced that they have rescinded honorary degrees given to Cosby in light of numerous accusations of sexual misconduct by dozens of women.
