Marco Rubio Faces Scrutiny over GOP Credit Card Charges
Of the 484 charges, eight of them were personal totaling $7,243.74.
Presidential candidate Ted Cruz told CNN’s Jake Tapper Thursday that if the if the Republican primary boils down to a head-to-head competition with Marco Rubio, he’s “very confident [he’s] in a position to win the race”. “Both Marco Rubio and Chris Christie were perceived as doing well in the debate and have seen their numbers climb substantially from where they were in September”.
“If there was a policy, no one knew it, not the party spokesperson, not Marco, not former Speaker Dean Cannon who also put personal charges on his card, not anyone else”, Harris wrote.
“I’m going to continue to talk about the future of America”. He also charged the party $1,000 for repairs to his minivan. It was American Express.
The campaign said the senator paid American Express directly on January 14, 2006.
Rubio told Karl it was important to make the distinction between a “credit card” and a “charge card”. Back in June, the NY Times detailed his many personal financial missteps at length: a brush with foreclosure on a second home in 2010 after being late with mortgage payments; his 2012 decision to spend part of a $800,000 book advance on a boat rather than paying down his considerable debts; his 2014 liquidation of a retirement account that prompted a hefty tax penalty; and the 2015 selling of his second home for $18,000 less than he and his friend paid for it a decade ago, to name a few. “It didn’t work then and it won’t work now”.
A day earlier, Donald Trump seized on the issue, saying, “For years, I’ve been hearing that his credit cards are a disaster”. His use of the card for a family reunion, flights and groceries was a recurring issue in that campaign. He does not speak nor does he even try to understand what Floridians need.
Marco Rubio ran for and was elected to the U.S. Senate by Floridians. Charlie Crist, with leaking the documents to the newspapers. He had not released the remaining American Express statements until Saturday. Bush was obviously uncomfortable when he went after Rubio for his missed Senate votes; Rubio, by contrast, was smooth as can be in coming back at Bush with that withering line about Jeb attacking him only because someone convinced him that it would help him. The ban prevents lawmakers from taking gifts from lobbyists, but the state party doesn’t face the same restrictions. The Florida Republican Party was responsible for paying off the cards on a monthly basis.
Asked about the claims, Rubio spokesman Alex Conant pointed to an independent report in 2010, which had found that Rubio’s transactions on the card from 2007 to 2009 “were, in fact, related to RPOF business”, based on information provided by Rubio.
Rubio’s personal finances have become an issue in the campaign, with rivals accusing the senator of spending lavishly and lavishly – and using it for personal business.
The announcement comes as Rubio is under greater scrutiny for his personal use of the American Express charge card, which he said was secured under his personal credit in conjunction with the state’s Republican Party.
