Adele: ‘I don’t want to be the face of anything’
Yet Adele, with her years of radio silence, has proved pop stars don’t have to saturate the market with their voice or face – see: Swift, Taylor – to remain relevant, because it could be argued no album in recent memory is more anticipated than her “25”, set for release Friday, November 20.
“Really, it’s harder work resisting it. But after a while I just refused to accept a life that was not real”, she said.
Saying, “Some songs are not good enough and I think that’s where a lot of people go wrong, thinking that people will buy any old [songs] from you”.
Seemingly Adele also pushed for her 2011 album 21 to be made available to paid subscribers, but allegedly had to back down as she hadn’t won all the Grammies in the world at that point. The 27-year-old British singer and songwriter might say hello to Apple Music and good-bye to Spotify. “If I wrote about being famous – that’s [expletive] boring”.
Considering the fact that each of her songs just happen to be gut wrenching, she may just be spending a lot of her time crying. I didn’t know if I should.
It seems like now Adele’s tears will decide how good her songs are penned.
“How I felt when I wrote 21, I wouldn’t want to feel again”, she continued in the interview.
In the past, as Rolling Stone pointed out, she cancelled a USA tour and also stays away from social channels like Twitter and Instagram, dominated by the likes of Swift and Rihanna. I thought I was going to be single for the rest of my life. The reason I labeled it a ‘make-up record, ‘ it sounds super cliché, but my last record was labeled a ‘break-up record, ‘ and rightly so, because it was a break-up record. “I’m the backbone for my kid, and I want to be there for him”, Adele said. “And I want to be there for my boyfriend as well, and I don’t want to bring them down with me for my art”, she added.
Just a week before the release of “25”, Adele has revealed what fans could expect to hear from her first album in four years.
