Microsoft Releases Windows 10 Fall Update; Brings OS Maturity, Enhancements

According to latest news, Microsoft has announced the launch of Cortana for Windows 10 user in India.

That was the advice given by many on Microsoft’s own user-to-user support discussion forums when people asked why they had not yet seen Windows 10 1511 offered by Windows Update.

Terry Myerson, Windows and Devices Executive VP said in his post, the new platform has reached its maturity while bringing improvements in every aspect of the platform such as, thousands of partners who updated their apps and drivers for compatibility with the OS.

The Windows 10 Fall Update is aimed to bring enhancements to stability and performance to the desktop OS.

Cortana for PC originally had limited availability, including the U.S., when Windows 10 came out. Developers can write apps that run on all Windows 10 devices and take advantage of native Windows features easily.

“I really consider this the “enterprise” update”, said Moorhead.

The virtual assistant can now book movie tickets and request an Uber ride, while Edge now has a tab preview, allowing users to hover over open tabs to get quick previews of content on those websites.

A few new features that might interest business users include tab previews in Edge and inking in Cortana, the new Business Store and more elements in Windows Update for Business. “Microsoft still needs to deliver sandboxing (secure mechanisms for separating running programs), but it’s in testing”. The reason cited for the removal at that time was due to system-wide slowdowns. The company first introduced Cortana in the country in September as part of its Insider Previewprogram. The data loss prevention technology for Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise and Education users had been promised earlier.

Microsoft has been updating and refreshing Windows 10 periodically with security patches and fixes since late July. There is no specific reason given for why there have been setbacks on Project Astoria, but the news makes sense given that the code set was removed from Windows 10 Mobile subsystems upon the release of build 10549 back in October. Also on Thursday, Windows 10 debuted on Xbox One with select phones slated to receive the operating system soon as well.
