Britain can help in transforming India: Cameron Nov 14, 8:09 am
“Diversity is its pride and its strength”, he said.
In this context, he further said, “Kabir and Rahim have been our inspirations”.
He also referred to Sufi tradition and said its greater spread would have helped check terrorism.
“Two dreams that we are working towards – a clean India and India with 24/7 electricity”, he said. It said, “As Narendra Modi and David Cameron leap from crag to crag of ever more outrageous flattery, one might wish that the affair could have been pitched on a somewhat lower level”.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the bond that the two countries share.
The Indian government has failed to act decisively against attacks on journalists and artists, leading many public intellectuals to renounce honours awarded by the Sahitya Akademi, the country’s National Academy of Letters.
The Prime Minister said the whole world is amazed how 125 crore people with so much diversity live peacefully with love and affection.
“It won’t be long before there’s a British Indian prime minister in Downing Street”, he told them.
“Team India and team United Kingdom together we are a winning combination”.
He also backed India’s claim for permanent membership in the UN Security Council. “If they want to associate then with a win-win formula, if they want to advance then shoulder to shoulder and this to me is the sign of a bright future”, he added. It was obviously in keeping with Modi’s “Make in India” initiative. Performers included Indian-origin pop star Jay Sean, popular Bollywood singer “Baby Doll” Kanika Kapoor and Alisha Chinai, who belted out her famous “Made in India” Hindi number of the 90s, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Mr Modi declared “good evening Wembley!” and described the stadium as a “special venue” as he began addressing the crowd.
“There are two major issues that leaders of all countries are anxious about”.
Modi was in the country to promote bilateral ties between India and the UK.
Modi’s held similar rallies in cities from NY to Sydney since his Hindu nationalist party swept to power past year, though not on the scale of the London event. Modi and his British counterpart David Cameron “stressed the importance of a lasting and inclusive constitutional settlement in Nepal that will address the remaining areas of concern and promote political stability and economic growth”, the paper said.
The huge protest comes after Mr Modi lunched with the Queen at Buckingham Palace and attended meetings with business leaders as part of a trade drive.
