Protests in old Srinagar area over youth’s killing
Angered by the killing of a youth on Saturday by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the protestors pelted stones on the policemen and shouted slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The shells were fired by the CRPF men of 44 battalion headquarters after the J&K Police, assigned to safeguard the highway, had surveyed the spot and left, on finding the situation normal, the FIR states.
He succumbed to injuries at a hospital.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar said a magisterial probe has already been ordered in the matter.
“He was either hit by a bullet or a shell, we don’t know what it was”, Medical Superintendent of SKIMS told Mail Today. “Random stone throwing was going on in the area since Saturday”.
According to Bhavnesh Chaudhary, the CRPF spokesman, a mob tried to breach the security of the unit headquarter, “Mob even tried to barge into the camp”. “We didn’t open any live fire”, he added.
A day after the killing of a college student in alleged CRPF firing on the outskirts of Srinagar, authorities on Sunday imposed strict restrictions in several parts of the Valley including Srinagar city to thwart any protests.
Seven persons, including two police constables, were injured in the stone-pelting incidents, they said. Around 300 separatist leaders and their sympathizers were taken into preventive custody head of Modi’s rally.
