Woman falls off cruise ship near Cuba
Members of the Coast Guard are searching for a female fan who went overboard during the Mad Decent Boat Party cruise featuring electronic dance stars Diplo and Skrillex on Thursday (12Nov15).
They say the incident happened on the Norwegian Pearl, the first day of an event called the Mad Decent Boat Party.
The Norwegian Pearl ship set sail from Miami on Wednesday (November 11) and was headed for Cozumel, Mexico. No name has been released. “The ship’s crew immediately initiated rescue measures”. A Coast Guard Alligator cutter boat and a C-130 rescue plane had been deployed from Clearwater to look for the woman. The Coast Guard has now taken over search and rescue efforts and the ship is en route to Miami. “She and a few other girl who was calling herself the twerk queen were having a twerk-off, ” Hansen said “Twerk queen started twerking on her (the missing woman’s) boyfriend, and it caused a few sort of issue between the two of them”.
Performers and passengers said on social media that the ship was reversing course to the last location where the woman was known to have been aboard.
Kaylyn Rose Sommer, a 24-year-old mother of a young daughter, disappeared while the cruise ship Norwegian Pearl was 22 nautical miles off the coast of Cuba, the US Coast Guard said. The search for the guest is ongoing.
The cruise line said in a statement that the woman leaped from a balcony into the water. Norwegian officials said her fall from the 15-deck boat was not an accident.
