U2 Cancels Paris Concert in Wake of Attacks
His older brother, Michael Dorio, spoke to FOX 5 over the phone and described how Julian survived; he was on stage playing drums for the band Eagles of Death Metal when gunshots rang out.
Alexander, 36, was selling merchandise for the band during Friday’s concert at Bataclan concert hall.
The band was the headliner for the sold-out show at the Le Bataclan theater Friday night and was about halfway through its set when the attacks took place. Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age, who is a studio member of the band but rarely tours with them, was not present at the Paris concert.
The Bataclan, built in 1864 in a chinoiserie style, turned into a bloodbath Friday night after four black-clad attackers opened fire with automatic weapons, killing at least 82 people.
One of the band’s crew members, Nick Alexander, 36, of Colchester, Essex in England was confirmed dead Saturday. They said the only pause came when the assailants reloaded their guns. President Francois Hollande called the tragedy – which ISIS has since claimed responsibility for – “an act of war”. “Fifteen hundred people, Julian said, was about the capacity of the venue”.
“Our security locked it down pretty quickly and we got our team and our crew out of there safely”, Bono said. Since, thousands of fans have commented with differing perspectives – a few have urged U2 to still perform, as they’ll bring happiness to concert-goers in the city, while others have pleaded for the band to cancel the show, in respect of the horrific events.
This attack is just one of the six attacks on Paris that night. “You’re not going to turn us into haters…I hope that’s the feeling in Bercy when we get back there”.
He said the band was able to head out of the back of the venue and could not see well due the stage-lights.
“Their families are devastated at the loss of life in the Eagles of Death Metal concert as well as our thoughts and prayers are with the group and their fans”.
