Holm KO’s Rousey’s UFC world title
Holm was a big underdog and was not even listed as part of the promotion for UFC 193.
The main event, which is expected to take place around 11:45 p.m. ET features Ronda Rousey (12-0) defending her UFC women’s bantamweight championship against former 19-time boxing world champion Holly Holm (9-0).
While UFC 193 was unfolding in Melbourne, Australia at Etihad Stadium to a massive crowd of 56,000+, women’s bantamweight contender and Rousey nemesis, Miesha Tate was busy with hosting duties at Las Vegas gentlemen’s club, Sapphire.
The finishing blow came in the second round, it was a perfectly placed left high kick to the face which dropped Rousey like a sack of bricks and Holm followed up with a few hammer fists until the ref pulled her off of an already unconscious Rousey.
As soon as she stepped off the scales last night, Rousey made a beeline for Holm and the pair had to be separated by UFC president Dana White.
In Round Two, Holm blasted Rousey with an epic head kick that will be replayed on highlight reels for years to come.
“I think everybody’s already kind of figured out she’s a pretty class act”, Bredy said.
“Everything we worked on presented itself in the fight. Every kind of grab that she tried to get”.
Rousey is widely regarded as the toughest woman on the planet after steaming past her previous opponents – but Holm told the media that she is not anxious. “This is insane!” Holm said in the post-fight interview inside the cage. She was simply marvelous in this fight, making Rousey fight exactly the way she needed Rousey to fight to have a chance at winning.
Facing real adversity for arguably the first time in her MMA career, Rousey’s response was more pressure in the second round.
Whether the situation really has turned sour or this was just a bit of pre-fight scuffling before the real show, things will definitely be decided on Saturday when one of the two undefeated bantamweights is handed her first UFC loss. Her last fight against Bethe Correia earlier in August lasted for 34s as the cumulative time of her last five fights is three minutes and eight seconds.
