Red Wings’ Petr Mrazek: Confirmed starter Saturday
Patrice Bergeron scored the first of Boston’s three second-period goals that lifted the Bruins to a 3-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings Saturday night. That may not sound like an impressive feat, but a victory like Saturday’s 3-1 win over the Red Wings was long overdue. By then, they were trying to dig out of a big hole. Datsyuk, who underwent surgery in late June to fix ruptured tendons in his right ankle, registered a team-high four shots to help the Red Wings outshoot the Sharks by a 2-to-1 margin (28-14). “Now we can think about tomorrow”. “We’ve got to make it hard for other teams to come in and play us”.
Perhaps it was Tuukka Rask who started the surge, making a hard save on Justin Abdelkader’s two-on-one bid with less than three minutes to play in a scoreless first period.
“It’s always nice to score”, Abdelkader said.
Landeskog suspended • Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog has been suspended for two games by the National Hockey League for an illegal check on Boston forward Brad Marchand.
Abdelkader said the Red Wings as a team need to get to the front of the net more often.
Bergeron kicked off the scoring at 7:18 of the second, carrying the puck out of the defensive zone and sweeping in on goaltender Petr Mrazek for a shot.
Joe Pavelski, Melker Karlsson and Matt Nieto scored for the Sharks in the opener of a six-game road trip. They have scored two or fewer goals in 11 of their past 13 games.
“I felt good in there”, Jones said. Do a lot of the little things right. “I think we did that in the third and we created more chances”. He didn’t take the loss in that game, but he came into Friday with just two wins in his previous eight appearances.
Notes: Bruins D Colin Miller missed the game with a lower-body injury and was replaced by D Zach Trotman, who appeared in his fourth game of the season, his third in the last four…. “I thought we played a good road game”. He collected an errant shot from Brenden Dillon, skated behind the net with the puck, followed up his own rebound and fired one over Howard with 2:08 left in the first. Bergeron beat Tomas Tatar to the puck and backhanded it into the open net. “That shouldn’t go in and the game would be different”.
Krejci’s scored just under 4 minutes later when he shifted from the left circle to the middle of the ice and slipped a wrister past Mrazek. Kronwall got the play underway in the Detroit end before hooking the puck over to Mike Green.
“We just had to stick it out, ” said Julien. “It’s never easy, especially with a team like Boston that likes boxing out”.
“This was just one of those games where we had a lot of shots, but we hit the post and hit the bar, and they had a couple of good bounces”, Tatar said. We’ve just got to keep at it here, know we’ve got to be better.
Action picked up in the second period and the Bruins were the primary creators of that action picking up three goals on the Wings.
