Tottenham Star Harry Kane Explains Why Arsenal Didn’t Sign Him as Youngster
I was small for my age.
It is hard to believe what a rapid, fairy-tale ascent the 22-year-old has enjoyed, having gone from third-choice frontman at White Hart Lane to score 31 goals for his boyhood club and net 79 seconds into his worldwide debut.
“I get people ask me to do wedding videos, to say congratulations”, Kane said, smiling.
“I do a lot of body weight stuff, power work, with your legs as well”.
“I’m happy to do it, yeah”.
“Obviously the season before, I seemed to be scoring pretty much every time I played. Obviously there are a lot of Spurs and England fans out there”. “I should ask them for copyright!” I think there’s quite a good fortune to make.
There is great ability in Kane, but it is always the attitude that strikes you most: an affable London lad with a steely-eyed, unwavering determination to succeed that you might ordinarily expect to see in someone much older than his 22 years.
“I don’t mind the fame side at all”. So, look, it is hard to call a player at such a young age.
Things have happened so fast for Kane that he admits he has barely had time to reflect on a whirlwind previous year or so.
“Things turn around quick and seven goals now for Spurs this season, which is great for me, gives me a lot of confidence and hopefully I can just continue that form now until the end of the season”.
Kane has scored five goals in his last three games for Tottenham Hotspur, including a hat-trick in a 5-1 victory over Bournemouth.
“And when the season started I was aware that people were going to compare me to a year ago so I was ready for that”. “I think even when I wasn’t scoring goals, I didn’t feel I was playing bad”. I still felt I was contributing to the team and we were picking up results.
And although Pochettino was a defender in his playing days – playing for Paris Saint-Germain and the Argentina national team amongst others – Kane admitted that he offered him plenty of expertise on how to become a better all-round centre forward.
“It’s one of the aims you set out to achieve when you start your career so to have achieved it so early is a dream come true and a very proud moment for me and my family”.
