Panthers’ Cam Newton gives away TD ball, despite Packers’ Julius Peppers
“That don’t match. I feel it’s my due diligence to protect this house”.
Under Armour representatives everywhere couldn’t help but shriek with joy when Newton gave this response for ripping down the banner in the front row.
Mike Dobs is a retired Command Sergeant Major and Wisconsin native living in Fayetteville.
Dobs, who claims he was going to hang the banner is his “man room”, isn’t done with the issue. The Packers tribute reads “North Carolina Cheesehead, ‘ and is stamped with a G in the middle of the state”. Dobs had permission from stadium officials, provided the banner wasn’t permanently affixed to the stadium. “We’re not all that different from them, though we support a different team”. “That’s it. That’s it”. Hey, Cam – hate to break this to you – but it seems like your frustrations are with the Panthers fans that DON’T travel, not the Packers fans that DO.
Once Newton got the ball he headed right in Colin’s direction.
Dobs, a recent candidate for Fayetteville City Council, said Monday he has received at least one threatening phone call and a few threats via the Internet from people who think he’s fishing for money from the Panthers or Cam Newton.
“I was shocked, just shocked”, Dobs told the paper.
“Of course we have a big target on our chest and on our backs and everybody wants to be the team that beats the Carolina Panthers”, Newton said.
Following the incident Dobs filed a police report. You can see what I consider to be racial comments made about Cam Newton by the Packers fan in the Sporting News story as well.
“I was just shocked, shocked. Going through everything that you asked me to do, and then you steal my property”.
Dobs complained to stadium security and Panthers staffers, and said he was led to believe the banner had been destroyed.
The Panthers said Monday that they plan to replace Dobs’ banner, so he may end up with two. Newton noticed the sign during warm ups before Sunday’s game versus the Packers and ripped it down.
Cam Newton wants more respect at home, and he not just talking the talk. “It was about respect”.
Green Bay fans typically travel well, and there was a large contingent of fans around the lower bowl cheering on the Packers as they warmed up before Sunday’s game.
