Saints defense puts up no resistance in 47-14 loss
“There are several attractive stories of fallen heroes who loved the Redskins; those who knew the score of the game no matter where they were in the world”.
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees (9) walks off the field after an NFL football game against the Washington Redskins in Landover, Md., Sunday, November 15, 2015.
Despite a 27-14 halftime deficit, the Saints got the ball to start the second half and started marching, chewing time off the clock by marching 49 yards in nine plays to set up a third-and-one at the Washington 31.
Two weeks after clawing their way back into the playoff race, New Orleans again finds itself in last place in the NFC South after a disheartening 47-14 loss to a Washington Redskins team that overwhelmed the Saints’ overmatched defense and sent New Orleans into its bye week searching for answers.
The Saints are turning porous, poor-tackling “D” into an art form. The Washington have been historically naughty against the running game the for the past month, but this contest could be a shootout should quarterback Kirk Cousins and the Redskins offense line can match New Orleans veteran quarterback Drew Brees over the air.
Cousins’ passing yards were all part of Washington’s 514 total net yards against New Orleans.
Defensively, the home team hasn’t been very effective in that regard either – one sack registered in the last three games.
“We can’t allow this to keep happening”, safety Kenny Vaccaro said.
In addition to trouble covering anyone or stopping anyone carrying the football – problems the Saints’ defense has been having week-in and week-out – New Orleans made all sorts of other mistakes. Fantasy Tip: Can’t ever go wrong using Brees, if you have him, but key is to figure out which receiver is going to be favorite target. “We said last Sunday that we would have an edge to us coming out of how the last game finished and we certainly did”. I just wanted to make sure guys came in and understand what we got. I think the offensive line did a good job.
Notes: Cousins’ play-action screen to Jones for 78 yards was the longest TD catch by a Redskins RB since Larry Brown scored from 89 in 1972…. His counterpart, Matt Jones racked up 187 total yards and a touchdown on just 14 touches. “That won’t change. Our approach, our focus is going to be on the next game”. In the end, the Saints’ defense is too much of a liability, and the Redskins should win this game by a field goal. New Orleans Saints vs Washington Redskins Legends live play time is February, 16.
Prop looks: The pass yards should be flowing in this game and I expect a few very long touchdowns due to broken coverage. For the second straight play, the Redskins front seven got excellent penetration led by veteran defensive tackle Kedric Golston and Chris Baker and forced a turnover. Understand that each game is another opportunity to win.
Washington has allowed 1,715 yards on defense in four road games, which means that they allow an average of 428.7 yards when visiting opponents.
