Mozilla Makes Firefox Accessible to All iOS Users
The app is available for download for free from the iTunes App Store, PC Magazine reported.
Mozilla for a long time rejected the idea an iOS version of its Firefox browser primarily because Apple, as far as Mozilla was concerned, put unacceptable restrictions on the way it wanted to build it.
Mozilla has been planning to launch the browser for years for iPhone and iPad users and now has finally rolled it out.
The Mozilla Firefox OS has a participation hub that gives up-to-date information about the latest software for its users. Firefox for iOS also allows Apple users to activate the private browsing mode in which the browser does not save history or cookies.
The company though signalled it may have changed its mind in an announcement made last December, possibly in reaction to reduced market share on Android powered devices, and desktops.
It was all the way back in 2012 when we covered the news of Mozilla’s Firefox browser arriving for Android. “If it sees similar usage on the iOS ecosystem it won’t have much effect on the overall mobile browser market”.
But Firefox loyalists will be happy.
Apple’s strict requirements meant that Mozilla were unable to use their own rendering engine, which was a major sticking point.
Firefox has finally come out with a new app for iOS devices. “If you decide you’re done trying it out, the app can be removed as simply as any other app. If you’re interested in becoming a code contributor or bug reporter, the app makes it dramatically easier to get involved”, he continued.
Do you think Mozilla’s Firefox for iOS would taste success, despite safari being the most preferred browser by Apple users because it is already pre-installed or Chrome being the top choice of everyone?
