Julian Edelman’s regular season could be over after breaking foot
The Patriots were 15-0 and arguably the best team ever, but they had to face a hungry Giants team looking to seal up a spot in the playoffs. Of course, they still had Brady and Gostkowski.
Wide receiver Julian Edelman was forced out of the game and into the locker room in the first half of the New England Patriots win over the NY Giants with an apparent foot injury.
“I lost us the game with the play down in the end zone, a play that should have been made”, Beckham said.
“But it’s fun being on a good team”. I mean, you can catch the ball and fall and come up.
For the Giants (5-5), this was another brutal lesson in failing to finish.
The Titans were held scoreless in the second half and suffered their 10th straight home loss, in the first home game under interim coach Mike Mularkey.
Shortly before that, the Giants thought they had a touchdown when quarterback Eli Manning connected with wide receiver Odell Beckham, Jr.in front of cornerback Malcolm Butler in the end zone.
After converting a third down with a 12-yard reception on the final play of the first quarter, Edelman limped off the field.
“I just look forward to the opportunity”, Gostkowski said after the 27-26 Patriots victory.
This one was far from ideal, but the Patriots got the job done when it mattered most, with Bill Belichick’s team gutting out its win of the year so far.
Said Giants coach Tom Coughlin: “It could’ve gone (either way)”.
They are still better than everyone else and a much safer bet to go 19-0 than to crumble along the way. “This is all or nothing on this drive.’ You’ve got to have confidence on drives like that”.
Three plays later, Brady was intercepted by McBride with 6:01 left and Manning took over. For fantasy football owners where either Amendola or LaFell is still available in free agency or the waiver wire, now is the time to go pick them up.
But with Edelman out and getting booked for surgery, the Patriots just beat the Giants at their own fourth-quarter game. “You’re always one kick away from trending on Twitter as the No. 1 loser in America”.
His Giants counterpart, Josh Brown, also is on quite a tear. His loss, combined with the loss of running back Dion Lewis (torn ACL in his left knee) last week, could put a huge dent in the Patriots’ passing game. In nine games this season, Brady has thrown for 3,043 yards and 24 touchdowns while being picked off just three times. “As much as people think the Giants are garbage, they gave the Patriots all they wanted”.
After review, the officials ruled it incomplete.
“That’s on me”, Beckham said. I look at it in terms of frustration that goes along with it because of what could have been. You’ve got to complete the whole process.
The Patriots certainly have confidence in Butler as their No. 1 cornerback. They would give up 422 total yards to the Giants as quarterback Eli Manning riddled the Pats for 361 yards and two scores through the air.
However, Manning and the offense did nothing after recovering a Brady fumble at the Patriots 31 leading 23-17 early in the fourth quarter. “It was a great play by Danny”.
Manning found Beckham between Butler and Devin McCourty on an 87-yard catch and run for a touchdown on the Giants second play from scrimmage. Beckham embellished his celebration with a salute to the crowd; the Giants honored the military before the game. Catch the ball and the game’s over. On the play, Brandon Meriweather and Craig Dahl collided as Gronkowski sprinted down the field untouched.
On the next drive, Brady hit Rob Gronkowski for a 76 yard touchdown pass down the seam, the longest of his career.
The starting center left the game with an ankle injury. He said it was not broken.
