Eagles of Death Metal Said to Cancel Rest of European Tour
Paris’ President François Hollande has declared a state of emergency and closed the country’s borders Friday after a string of violent attacks hit the city Friday night, leaving at least 35 dead, according to multiple reports. The members of the band were uninjured.
Bono reiterated the band’s thoughts and prayers for those lost during an interview with RTÉ2fm radio in his native Ireland saying, “Our first thoughts at this point are with the Eagles of Death Metal fans”.
Michael Dorio, identified as the brother of the band’s drummer Julian Dorio, told WSB-TV in Atlanta that his brother told him the Islamic terrorists opened fire while they were playing. “Everyone on stage was able to get off”.
One person working with the band was killed, according to “people with knowledge of the situation” as reported by the Los Angeles Times, while another person working with the band was shot.
Lower than an hour after the band started taking part in, a highly anticipated concert in Paris became a bloodbath.
Despite what their name suggests, the band does not play Death Metal.
The band Eagles of Death Metal was supposed to perform at the Bataclan, a theatre located in eastern Paris near the trendy Oberkampf area. “And it’s very upsetting….These are our people”, said Bono.
“From my understanding, I think the whole band’s been accounted for.”
Alternative metal group Deftones were due to play a three-night run at the Bataclan concert venue which was targeted by the gunmen.
Their website lists about two dozen dates planned for the year, including stops in Munich, Stockholm, Rome and Barcelona.
Mr Alexander, from Colchester in Essex, is well-known in the touring community and bands and fellow merchandise suppliers were sharing their concern on social media today. “There were many victims in bad, atrocious conditions in several places”.
Those who knew Nick Alexander, the Eagles of Death Metal crew member slain in Friday night’s coordinated terrorist attacks in Paris, are painting a fuller portrait of his life. Police rescued many shocked survivors in the building, but bodies are still being removed Saturday morning.
