Snapchat Launches $0.99 Lenses to Forever Spice up Selfies
30 paid lenses will be available per day, though Snapchat didn’t clarify when or how often it will replace these lenses. You’ve probably seen pictures of people with rainbows cascading from their mouths – that’s a Lens.
Snapchat today began charging its users 99 cents to use a few of its popular selfie filters, sparking outrage.
Snapchat has just unveiled the “lens store”, a place where users can buy additional photo lenses for $0.99 (£0.79). The new Selfie lens store will have both old and new lenses. When they launched Lenses, they also added replays you could get through an in-app purchase. And like Lenses, it also offers a free version of the feature that gives users one chance a day to take a second look at a snap before it disappears. Extra lenses aren’t the only things you can pay for in the Snapchat app now. The free lenses will be listed at the top, followed by your lenses you’ve bought and at the bottom are others you can buy and use. Snapchat’s respective comment says that it is now working on getting more celebrity users on board with Official Stories.
Star Wars is littered with opportunities to deliver new Snapchat Lenses that will allow users to get ready for the release without actually putting on costumes for the wait in line.
Back in September, messaging app Snapchat acquired selfie animation app Looksery, and started offering free selfie lenses.
Yet, Snapchat investor Fidelity recently wrote down its investment by 25 percent showing concerns about the company’s valuation. Swipe through them, and the store will be located in the same row right after the free ones.
Snapchat: How do you buy a Lens? Every single day, there will probably be 30 paid lenses. Although people enjoy being creative and amusing in unconventional ways, not many are willing to pay for it. The first is advertising, of course, and lenses have a role to play there, too – Snapchat allows brands to “sponsor” lenses, as Fox did to promote The Peanuts Movie. According to Re/Code, Snapchat – which is valued at $16 billion (£10 billion) – is aiming to bring in $50 million (£32 million) in revenue during 2015.
Snapchat plans to continue this rota, but you’ll also be able to purchase your favourites to use whenever you like.
