Anonymous declares war on ISIS
The man behind the Guy Fawkes mask says in French: ‘Anonymous from all over the world will hunt you down.
Now for Operation Paris, or #OpParis, the group is urging its members to hack into ISIS wesites to steal valuable information and leak it online.
Anonymous, a loose collection of online activists, has been tracking the online activity of Islamic State group supporters for a few time as part of a campaign to expose and shut down Twitter accounts used by the group to communicate and spread its message globally.
A hacker with Anonymous revealed that IS accounts have a life span of about eight hours before Twitter suspends them.
“We are going to launch the biggest ever operation against you – expect very many cyber-attacks”.
But a tweet was posted Sunday that said Anonymous is at war with Daesh. The series of terrorist attacks in Paris on November 13 left more than 120 people dead and hundreds injured.
In a video posted soon after the attacks, a person claiming to represent the group warns members of Islamic State that it intends to hunt them down. “War is declared. Get prepared”.
Although ISIS has been famous for all its attacks on other less-broader topics of interest in the past, #OpISIS is clearly one its generally acceptable motives and will find plenty of backers from those who seek revenge.
Anonymous has already dismantled 149 IS-connected websites, according to Foreign Policy, a Washington, D.C.-based publication and website.
A video was also released, in French, from someone claiming to be associated with Anonymous, saying: “Expect massive cyber attacks”.
