McKenzie’s punt return lifts Georgia past Auburn, 20-13
Despite speculation to the contrary, the Bulldogs’ head coach appears just as committed as ever and if Eason does indeed suit up for the Dawgs next season, Georgia may just go from having a huge question mark at quarterback to having one of the stars of the league.
The Auburn defense played one of its best games of the season, but was worn down over the course of the game after the Bulldogs controlled the time of possession.
Why You Need To Care All of a sudden, Auburn is back among the living. “With a game like this, it’s a big rivalry”.
Just so everyone knows, Jeremy Pruitt is our defensive coordinator and is in the office working diligently getting ready for Kentucky! After a week of turmoil and wild Twitter rumors, all was right with the world by reversing the 27-3 loss to Florida with a 27-3 win over Kentucky. Next week, they host Georgia Southern before traveling to Georgia Tech to close out the regular season. The only thing missing were turnovers as Auburn finished minus-3 thanks to the offense’s effort.
To me, this is the most important stat: Auburn has not won back-to-back games at Jordan-Hare against Georgia since the 1988 and 1990 games. Lose, and it’s hot seat time.
Well, would Georgia be okay with risking 14 years of at least going to a bowl game?
Mark Richt didn’t make any kind of brilliant coaching decision when he put Isaiah McKenzie in the game to field a fourth-quarter punt. One was the win over SC, and the other three game in the three losses to Bama, Tennessee and Florida. Although the way these two teams are passing the ball, it may not matter.
With Georgia’s inconsistencies at quarterback this season, Eason will be very much in the mix for the starting quarterback job in 2016. Georgia had 46 rush attempts in the game and averaged just 3.2 yards per carry.
Therefore, in that situation, Richt wanted McKenzie in the game to ensure the Georgia return unit would be out of the way of another possible short punt.
Auburn had a few miscues itself. Generate a little bit of pressure up front, and the Bulldog air attack turtles.
PRAYER IN JORDAN-HARE: This is the Bulldogs’ first visit to Auburn since losing in 2013 on a desperation pass deflected and caught by Ricardo Louis for a touchdown. Auburn seemed intent on playing quarterback Sean White, who not only seemed injured to the point of stationary but was completely out of rhythm. What’s Going To Happen? .
The offense regressed, but the defense continues to improve.
That’s not a word that describes most of this Georgia season.
Auburn’s next test will be Idaho, which comes to town with only three wins on the year. An interception by UGA’s Malcolm Parrish on the 40-yard line led to Georgia’s first points of the game, a 40-yard field goal from Marshall Morgan.
